Lake Creek Restoration Project

The Sockeye Are Coming!

After years of planning and a month of construction, Lake Creek has been restored. The project to enhance fish habitat on Lake Creek through our property is complete, with the exception of some plantings to be done in the spring.

The project began on October 9th.  The first order of business was to reroute the creek and close off the pond.  When this was accomplished, a large industrial pump was used to remove the water/silt from the pond.  As the water receded, a large excavator moved in to place boulders and trees along the shore of the new creek.  River rock was imported from a Forest Service quarry as well as earth to build the new point bar and create riffles & pools where the pond once was.  Two new bridges were also added to replace the old bridges in front of Cabins 1 and 10 and to reroute the bike path.

The Completed Project!

It is the hope that this project will be the start of the reintroduction of steelhead, Chinook & sockeye salmon through new fish passage efforts at the Pelton RoundButte Dam.  Chinook & sockeye salmon are expected to return to the Metolius River, including Lake Creek, by the year 2008 .
